Article from GCC: 2009 F-150 SFE
After my visit to the Ford Museum and Rouge Factory, there is now a unique place in my heart for Ford. These days, I'm relegated to renting GMs, Mitsubishis, Toyotas, and Nissans from National. Hertz has the corner on Fords, but I fired them after too many headaches. Plus, National lets me choose any car in the lot -- which is great for FE, testing, or both. I haven't driven a Ford in a while, but I rather miss them.
I'm not sure when the model was officially leaked, but during the tour, I was thinking that a special fuel economy model of the F-150 should be produced. In fact I mentioned that a 6-speed auto, taller gearing, and better aero should beat the lineup for improved FE. It turns out they had already one in the works: the F-150 SFE (superior fuel economy). http://bioage.typepad.com/photos/unc...f150sfe_01.png According to Green Car Congress, the specialized model will attain 21 mpg / Hwy, and an overall 8% increase vs. the lineup. 21 mpg at 80 mph is not too bad.
but 2wd? wtf. who buys 2wds? at least not here. they tweaked areo and gave it a higher final gear ratio. |
The SFE will only get 1 mpg more than the standard version - so I read. Sales tactic, I think.
No new vehicles for me. My "hot rod" (96 F250 Powerstroke Diesel) will be having double the horsepower soon for $2000. I should get 2 to 3 more MPGs (sales tactic to the wife!). Can't do that to a gasser. |
