Buying Hypermiling car Mitsubishi Mirage or?

Hello I'm in Australia.

I've been running around on a NBC110 getting about 39-44km/L on my commute however I'm looking at getting the most efficient and economical manual car in a month to transport my son. Will be 5-10 years old to save on depreciation. This will be my first car.

I've done a bit of reading so far and the Mitsubishi Mirage seems like a popular choice however I'm sure some of you might be able to think of a car I have not considered yet.

I'm pretty handy so will be doing all mechanical maintenance myself if possible.

I'd also like to do some aeromods if they are cost effective.

If you can find a first generation Insight, they're King of the Hill in terms of economy, though more than 10 years old for even the last years. I know of a guy, Julian Edgar, who has one in Australia, so I know they were sold there. You can expect to get similar economy to your bike at 80-90kmph with careful driving.

Otherwise a Mirage is a fine choice.

From my experience, the Mirage is a very basic and highly reliable car for a good price. It also happens to return very good fuel economy. It is not luxurious or quick though, so keep that in mind.

If you think the Mirage is too confining and are willing to take the mileage hit, consider a Jazz.

If I were you I'd take a look at the Suzuki Celerio.
