Audi A6 MPG
New to this forum. Owned my, new to me, Audi A6 Allroad with a 3 litre V6 diesel. I'm really impressed with the economy. Last week, averaged 59mpg on a 120 mile trip (mostly motorway at 65mph).
For a big engine, that feels good. Anyone with a similar engine got any similar stories?

VW group diesels have always impressed me. There are a few factors to keep on mind:
-UK gallons are bigger than US gallons. 59mpg UK = 49mpg US - still phenomenal fuel economy for a large displacement V6.
-Diesel has 15% more energy content per gallon than petrol. If put in terms of like for like efficiency, 49mpg diesel = 42mpg from petrol. Which continues to be a very impressive number from a large displacement engine in a relatively big car. However, that will be your benchmark in a fair comparison.
A quick check against a modern Camry V6 shows a 33mpg highway rating, with most people averaging mid 20's. Definitely a good showing from the Audi.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure why though I need to compare UK mog to US mpg, or indeed diesel to petrol as a comparison. Grateful for your views.

You don't need to 'need to compare UK mog...'. Ecky is just trying to be helpful. Though there are a few of us conversing here, there is a vastly larger number of bots and lurkers hovering unseen in the background. --Currently Active Users: 1559 (4 members and 1555 guests)-- That's three orders of magnitude!

Probably a good way to look at it. Set your own benchmark and go from there! Do you have anything in mind for the car? Driving strategies or small modifications?

Sorry I'm late to the somewhat-relevant party. Where did he go?
