Automaker's history of fighting better fuel economy
A little dated but shows how wrong the automakers always are.

Amazing how customers flock to buy junk they don't want or need
|
...a re-phrasing of P.T.Banum's famous saying: "...you can sell some junk to some people, or you can sell lots of junk to lots of people."
...it's called the 'American-way of Commercialism'! |
I do not even want to read that.
One just had to be a customer, and thier own mechanic.. 1 really retarded example is the bogro jet on gm vehicles... the same exact carburator making ts way from a 301bop motor to a 454 chevy..un freakin believable. could be a 9to1 sloth tiny displacement all the way to lunatic... Holley made its glory then, carter also. even the webers for the custom multi intakes..all because gm was an idiot. there s a benefit to idiot company parts. I know why..isn't that obvious? is it not? |
Yep, and now they are paying a price for their shortsightedness dating back to the mid 70S.

I'm gonna finish reading that when I haven't had so many beers. The words were all running together after the first section.
I'm very interested, though, and thank you for posting it! |
That's the reason I am still driving a 1992 car. When I looked at the market of new cars with an eye towards replacing it in 2000, there was no new car available that came close to matching its gas mileage. So I kept my old car, put a new engine in it and kept on driving it. And now, with all of the mods I have installed on it, there still isn't a new car being sold today that can match its mileage. Right now in the winter with snow tires on the car, I am still getting better mileage (mid to upper 60's mpg) than I was able to get from my dad's 2005 Prius (60-61 mpg) when I was driving it in the summer. And with the additional interior volume from the boattail, both vehicles are 4-seaters with very similar interior volume, but I'm doing it without the added cost and maintenance of the hybrid techology.
