Automated Grille Shutters

Still some work to do, I'll post these for now....

All 6061-T6 aluminum with brass friction points. Will use a solenoid and fan controller for automation.

I'm not seeing any photos. Tried this in three browsers.

[Edit]: There they are, now.

Looks pretty cool, what will send the signal to activate the louvers? Will the relay close automatically?

Right now im planning to use an ordinary fan controller to control the on/off point. By default it will be on when the key is on and when the controller reads a set temperature it will "turn on" and break the circuit for the solenoid which will cause the louvers to open.

Out of curiosity, how much would anyone be willing to pay for a custom fit set of these? Working of course.

That's a good question but I would keep in mind that you are on a forum full of *cough* frugal people.

The VW e-Golf has thermally controlled shutters on the lower grill. I'll post a picture.

Retail cost for the parts is $125 not including the controller and wiring. Realistically if i were to commercialize this i could probably get the materials cost down around $75 ballpark. Redesigning with plastic would be ideal for cost. These figures to not include labor and overhead.

I get "Sorry, the requested page does not exist." [which is weird because they show up fine nineteen months later]
