Autonomous & Aero Rolls-Royce

Not exactly but it combines a mixed bag of conflicting 'aero' concepts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGSm082ELXY

Love the half wheel covers and the look of the car overall.

At 1:00 minute in the video there is some sort of steering action, wouldn't get you out of a carpark but you have a Rolls so you don't need to.

I caught that. They need to have it hit a deep pothole at full steering lock, 'n see if that beautiful coachwork doesn't spontaneously deconstruct.

I'll settle for a diesel electric Mercedes Benz C-111 Mk 3 replicar. The front wheel assembly would have to rotate and be hinged where the strut meets the main body. No mention of passenger restraint system.

This thing sure gets a lot of attention. It's sort of a cubist Colani.

To me it's sort of an anti-Olli. I invite all y'all to compare the thread that's languishing in Alternative Transportation:

I'll repost here what I already posted in the other thread.

The "Electric Drive" mentioned in the video could also be an electric pump for hydraulic drive. Several of the proposed small airplanes which convert into automobiles feature such systems. Not the most efficient way to go, but as these creations are more aircraft than car they get a pass - I guess.

I was imagining four wheel steering which could lessen the protruding angle of the turn radius for each wheel. However the snippets above seem to indicate front turning wheels only - despite the similarities fore and aft in the wheel arch configurations and detailing.

Lots of smoke and mirrors, but that's what a far fetched concept is all about, use your imagination to fill in the blanks - have some fun with it.

As mentioned by others, the vertical travel of the wheel would be near zero. Meaning the wheel spokes themselves would have to accommodate the shock absorption and travel. We have seen such wheels proposed in Popular Mechanics, Popular Science and for the run flat military for decades now.

One of the inspirations...designer Gordon Buehrig's Tasco.

With such a respected designer as Buehrig himself acknowledging that the Tasco was an awkward design, it’s funny that BMW and Rolls-Royce appear to have used it as inspiration for the luxury marque’s long term vision.
