AutoZone price-matches RockAuto

In case you do not follow each and every one of my super-awesome and wonderful threads, an AutoZone employee recently told me about this. Presumably they match other websites as long as they offer the same warranty.

This is the starter that AutoZone had for my car: https://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...11072_188166_0

It is now $4 cheaper and unavailable.

I must have gotten the last one!

At the time it was $149.99.

RockAuto has this remanufactured starter for $73.79:

Shipping is $11.99. I didn't check his math. I think he price-matched including tax--and then charged me tax again.

So, I could have saved over sixty dollars instead of over fifty.

This is the distributor that I bought off of Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was $173.25 shipped. It has a lifetime warranty, so AutoZone should match it. Here is what they have in-stock, but not in Show Low, on a corner in Winslow, Arizona: https://www.autozone.com/external-en...72_613569_4618

$269.99. The sales tax would be 9.1%! $24.57 for a total of $294.56.

I would call and verify they would price match before trying to save over $120.

RockAuto has the same one for $159.78 shipped: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...1355554&jsn=11

As long as you make sure they don't look at you and charge you [tax] twice in America you can save another $13.47, $134.78.

However, since you only need to match warranties, you could use this one and save another $10.

Two months ago I replaced the valve cover gasket and tube seals for $27.99, spark plugs for $11.16, and, well, I didn't pay the $68.99 AutoZone is charging for spark plug wires, I bought them for significantly less from O'Reilly's, which does not show it at all.

That stuff totals $108.14. RockAuto charges $70.75 with shipping for the exact same stuff, but $56.58 for the cheapest parts with the same warranty ($34.61 parts and $21.97 shipping from three different warehouses!)

Unfortunately, my car has broken down five times in the last three months and I spent at least $375 in parts, I tried to get a good deal, but apparently I left about $35 on the table.

When possible I try to buy genuine Honda parts, but when you buy from a parts store, which do you prefer? Can you find out whether or not they price match websites?

As a former autozone employee, another condition I've heard is it must have a brick and mortar store somewhere. However, it really just depends on who you are talking to.

Autozone usually does a 10% military discount as well.

Is that really worth it with the age of your cars? As long as the cheaper parts aren't garbage from the factory, they might be good enough.

I have had AutoZone parts fail within a year, so yes.

I ask for a Veteran's discount if the order is over $5.

O'Reilly:
Quote:

To receive a price match, the lower-priced item from a competitor must be identical to the item in-store. You can show an advertisement with a lower price or a picture of the item’s price tag to a store associate. Your price match guarantee may require approval by a store manager. O’Reilly does not price match with online competitors, and price matching is only available in stores.

Napa:

NAPA Auto Parts doesn’t make any mention of price matching on its website, so we reached out to NAPA Auto Parts stores in Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, and Nevada. Though none of the stores would outright say that they price match, all expressed some willingness to offer a discount based on competitors’ prices. In fact, a NAPA representative said, “We don’t have a price match policy, but we try to help people out.”

I guess that AutoZone does not always price-match websites:
Quote:

AutoZone generally does not price match with online retailers, such as Amazon and RockAuto. Both of the corporate representatives we spoke with said that the official policy is not to match online prices or internet sites. However, when we called AutoZone stores in several states to confirm the enforcement of the corporate policy, we found that some store managers (about 30% of those we contacted) were willing to consider a price match with RockAuto if the store can verify the price. Bring proof of the lower price to your local store or call the store before visiting to learn whether you can get a price match with an online competitor.
