Basic aero question (can dents hurt MPG?)
Does anyone know where I can find the drag .cd of my 1992 civic 4dr?
I also was wondering how much .cd damage I'm doing driving around with dents in the hood and a rip (somewhat small-ish) in the front fascia, and if its affecting my mileage. I can take some pics if that would help. I'm just wondering if it would be worth it to replace the fascia and the hood. I was also thinking about sealing up seams with packing tape, such as between the headlight and the blinker, ect. Has anyone done that before and seen results? |
Pictures would help. However, small dents really won't hurt aero that much. The rip is probably minimal as well unless your bumper is now hanging down.

The coupe has a .32 .Cd according to Road & Track.
You have a longer roof line so the airflow might stick better. I'd say it is safe to guess at around .32 -.33 range. As far as the dents, how large are they ? |
Very manly color, no?

Those are little, and where they are they aren't really affecting your airflow. If you need to, you can probably ignore them. The steel is thin, though: if there's any bare metal showing, that's a welcome mat to car cancer.

OK good, thanks... I know all about the cancer, I'm in Buffalo NY, just about the capital of salt use, the car has a couple of "spots" (read: rot holes) already.
Also thanks for the .Cd numbers |
