would it be possible to use an electrical motor to drive the front wheels? via a transfer case?


this would be a full time Asymmetric AWD ? (ICE not connected) or would that add too much drag? PLUG IN only > this could also assist the EV mode my suv has for city use under 30mph

It would probably be easier to retrofit the standalone electric motor rear differential of a Highlander Hybrid into the front position on your Tahoe. You could just swap the front end outer parts for the four-wheel drive and the only adapter would need to be the CV half shafts to a different differential.

that sounds like a good idea i just need better city mileage(in my local city) i think Aero mods would help a bit

i get around 20-22 i just want to get it to 25 or 30


first then modifying the power train. because it more expensive ..it would cost a bit to get the 4x4 parts i would need (CV joints and other parts) but thanks for that idea

Theoretically it should go 45mph, it's more a function of how slow acceleration you're willing to put up with to achieve that speed. I had considered using that transaxle to make a fwd car an awd hybrid at one point. Gets complicated in a hurry.

Honestly though since your vehicle is already a hybrid I think you would be better off mounting an auxiliary EV battery pack and getting a charge controller to just recharge your existing Hybrid battery off your new plug-in hybrid battery pack. That way you don't need any additional motors or anything else like that.

Probably more gains to be had from weight reduction, aero treatments, and careful driving though.

Have you been to the tuners with your car? Maybe they havve figured out how to manage the battery and motors.

i think a few tried and failed they were trying to hack the S10e back in 2010 but the person passed away and took any info with him back in 2014 this is the only thing that remains of that

if it could go to about 40mph common speed limit in my area that would be nice as it
would immediately be in the fuel economy zone.. i been getting it to 29mph on ice then coasting it on the freeway in heavy traffic this keeps the MPG up other wise i'd be sore loser only getting 10-14mpg instead of 25-26mpg.

the Honda insight Ewheel is interesting that could be good for low speed crawling i.e in freeway traffic..
