I got a forklift battery for my house, but I'm only using it for emergency power.

Nice! Is it massive lead acid, or something else?

Nice shop! Perf-metal cubicle walls and planters hanging on the handrails.

The grid buffering aspect is interesting. With lots of these all over, local disruptions would be constrained.

OTOH the smart meter part is a problem. Using wireless to control a wired connection?

For off stationary off grid power I'm sticking with lead acid.
Unless some day I gut my leafs pack.

But lead acid are really bad for grid storage since they are typically around 80% efficient at best.

I'd still give lead-acid a chance for stationary applications, since those are less weight-sensitive. I'd consider those Optima batteries if I were going to install an off-the-grid setup at home.
