Battery Jumper Alt use?

Alright, so i took apart my old battery jumper to see why it died.
As it was predicted from the forum it has one SLA battery (12v 17ah/20hr) that has gone dead.

I can find a replacement online for around $30.00 USD (if i can't find one at walmart or somewhere else local) but what i'm wondering is this:

The battery jumper takes in a regular household plug, charges the 12v SLA, has DC Output (cig lighter plug), and has jumper output for starting your dead car battery. From dead to full with the battery in the current ill state it will take approximately 16 to 20 hours to charge the stored SLA battery.

So Is there an alternate use for this piece of equipment? something i could use for my future EV project?

Well, you've got a 12v battery charger. Depending on how you set up your 12v system it could be your onboard charger (if you don't use a DC-DC converter).

it sounds like that would be an awfully slow recharger, comparable to Ben Nelson's Electro bike charger. Especially if you consider that i will likely be going with 72v or more with the batteries.

Uhh, it ain't gonna do 72 volts.

Unless of course you take each 12v batt out of the pack and charge it 24 hours on it's own.

Only 3 days for a full recharge.

I think he meant for your 12V accessory battery! Not your main power pack!

The charger on my motorcycle IS terribly slow, but efficient.

Gotcha!

Run the accessories from a cheaper 12v battery, have a separate power supply for the main drive system.

Blair my radio and play with the power windows all i want, it will only kill the 12v accessory battery and not the main drive system which can be recharged using the booster I have. It won't decrease my range or motor performance just by leaving my radio or lights on.

Thanks guys. Later on i'll just have to sort out what i want to run on the 12v and what i want to run with the main pack with a dc/dc converter (such as vacuum brakes).
