Been away a while, back for more fun ;-)

Hey,

I used to post here a few years ago, when I owned a '98 contour.

Alas, that car has gone to the "Big Shredder in the Sky," and it's been a while since I had a car I intended to hold onto long enough to mod.

Now, I've got two vehicles: a '94 F-150 (2X4, shortbed, MT, I-6) and a '84 V45 Honda Sabre. Getting roughly 15 combined from the truck, and 40 from the bike.

Looking for ideas on how to mod the straight-6 for better MPG. (I mean, the engine has been around roughly since the invention of the wheel, so there's gotta be a fair amount of accumulated knowledge out there!) I'd like to get an honest 20 highway vs. my current 17 (although I try to only use "big Blue" for local, work-related stuff).

First mod will probably be a partial Kammback off the roof (hinged to allow full use of bed as needed).

Welcome back!

You are probably on the right track starting with aero. Make sure you do aero mods over and under the truck. Keep the cruising speed down, if possible.
Find the highest/tallest geared rear end that you can.
Get a manual/OD transmission if it doesn't already have one.

How far are you willing to go? Get some high CR pistons. Get an economy cam & time it for efficiency.

While it's apart, maybe omit a couple of pistons & seal off the oil holes in the crank. I'm not saying it will run well, but I delegate you to be the first to try it!
