A Museum?

I think of this vehicle as part of EV history ..

.. has anyone started a Museum to preserve such history as this? I did a quick search on Google and found several museums for production vehicles, past and present, but none for the REAL innovators ... the DIY crowd ..

Hi Gary, yes, I still have the Citicar. It's sitting over at a friend's house right now, waiting for us to do a brake job on it.

That's another reason. I have TOO MANY electric cars!
The Citicar is neat though, it has some history, and is extremely compact, so its very easy to garage and store.

unless your wife makes way more money than you, she should not have any say on you buying a citi car.

I've now posted all of the BUILD YOUR OWN ELECTRIC CAR DVD as a playlist series on youTube. You can watch the whole thing there now for free.

I watched all episodes a few months ago and now I'm convinced that I must convert my "Miata" to electric! Manual transmission, weighs a little over 2000 pounds, can easily be converted to manual steering, AC doesn't work and is not needed.. so it's the perfect vehicle for this conversion.

Clearly things have changed in the 10 years since you started this project, yet it is still one of the top results on google for "diy electric car".

Is there a recommended, new resource for navigating this new EV world with regards to DIY? Buying a used EV is great of course but I want to electrify my project car. Not opposed to buying a wrecked Leaf or iMiEV or something and harvesting the parts from it. Might be able to spend over $5k once I sell my gas guzzler (Toyota 4Runner getting an absolutely embarrassing 13mpg city, just bought a hybrid Subaru to replace it, but my wife will drive that to work every day).

I made a short article as a "First place to look" in terms of what it takes to convert a car to electric.

See that here.
https://300mpg.org/buildelectriccar/

I'll just reinforce an idea or two from the article right here.

See what people have already done. A Miata was always a pretty popular car to convert. Look on the EV Album to see what parts and budgets people had for their conversion. You don't have to re-invent the wheel!
EVAlbum: Search Results

Keep in mind that converting a car is a somewhat long and complicated process. Do it because you like the learning and the process itself (you are a project person, you like working with your hands, etc.) not just for the end result.

There are many more resources today than when I did my first conversion (which was a big reason why I made the videos - they didn't exist otherwise!)
Nowadays, there are quite a few good YouTube videos, Web Forums, and other places to learn. Don't forget about in-person clubs and even your local library!

Again, take a look at my article for more.
