Best bets for new ecomodder? (upgrading from gas hungry monster...)

Hey all,

I am looking for opinions on the best make/model types to pick up used to work with. I am new to this and I don't want to make a bad purchase. :) Does anyone know of a review site maybe of best high mpg cars?

I need something suitable for a single person (ie: two seater is fine) and lots of storage (non existent or fold down seats?) for camping gear. Maybe a wagon of some sort.

I would love to get one of the new modern hybrids but I can't buy new!

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much :D

A used Prius or original Insight sounds like what you're looking for. If you mostly drive highway, a Civic isn't bad either.

I've got a Saturn SC three door coupe. It gets great mileage and has both a massive trunk and fold down seats. Be sure to get the manual transmission!

CRX, if you can find one that's not been raped by a ricer.

Manual Ford Escort, they're great little beaters.

Older Honda Civic's, wouldn't look at much after '95, though.

Several smaller Toyotas, Hyundai, and similar cars.

Basically, find something small, with a 3/4 cylinder (some 5 cylinders are great too) or a very small V6, for a good price.
