BEV / ICE entropy vs cooling load
 
In 2015, Motor Trend offered data for the complete line of the Volkswagen Golf.
The e-Golf is the closest in performance to the Golf TDI.
Here are some data which provide insight into the cooling needs of both cars, BEV vs ICE:
* EPA Combined HWY, 290 Wh / mi vs 1,071 Wh /mi
* 989.4 Btu / mi vs 3,654.2 Btu / mi
* 83-miles range vs 22.4-miles ( with equal 'tank' )

* All e-Golf cooling must come from the radiator.

* At a maximum overall thermal efficiency of 35% for the TDI :
1) 1,278.99 Btu / mile will be useful work
2) 2,375.2 Btu / mile will be equally split between the exhaust pipe and radiator, or 1,187.6 Btu at each.
3) Since 1,187.6 Btu / mile exceeds 989.4 Btu / mile, it would appear that in the comparison between the two, the ICE TDI would require a larger cooling system than the BEV variant. And perhaps higher drag.
4) There's a 17-count difference between the two drag coefficients. Perhaps, it's not a great leap of the imagination to consider that the lower heat flux of the e-Golf allows for a smaller cooling drag footprint.
