beware: Microlon on the scene
was reading myturbodiesel and ran across this:
http://www.myturbodiesel.com/threads...eatment.24430/ http://www.microlon.com/index.php all the usual claims are there but are all anecdotal. here's the text: Want more Engine Performance & Protection? More Efficiency? More MPG? More Smoothness and Quieter Running Engine? Simple. Just add a Kit of Microlon the next time you change your oil. I've been using Microlon's Products for over 40 years with consistent beneficial results. Diesel, Gas, Cars, Trucks, Boats, Machinery and Aircraft. So far, all the customers that I have sold Microlon to in the past have received all the positive benefits mentioned above. I currently drive a TDI Jetta with a Manual Trans and recently treated the Engine, Trans and Differential/Transaxle. Results were noticed by my wife within the first 20 minutes. She asked, "What did you do to the engine? It's so much quieter and smoother." MPG's also went up over 10%. A friction free running engine is simply more efficient. How it works: The Microlon engine treatment works in two stages. First, the Microlon cleaning complex clears the engine of the carbon, varnish, and sludge that can accumulate through normal use. After the engine is clean, the Microlon film forms on the bearing surfaces. None of that process is inherently harmful to any engine. There have been a couple of cases where we have recommended that an engine not be treated, and those cases dealt with very old engines that were essentially held together by the gunk that Microlon will remove. Microlon Incorporated has full faith in its products and is proud to offer their customers a three-year unconditional money back guarantee...... In thirty-five years, there has never been a damage claim against any Microlon products. I am now offering a 15% discount on all Microlon products for your TDI's and any other equipment needing a "Helping Hand." Manual Transmissions, Microlon Compound-90 (C-90) is a specially formulated metal treatment for manual transmissions and differentials. It reduces performance-robbing and wear-causing friction on gears and other metal surfaces. C-90 treats the metal surfaces with a durable micro-thin dry super lubricant film for reduced friction, noticeably smoother operation and protects against corrosion and scale. You only need to treat your manual transmission or differential once to reduce maintenance and extend their life. Microlon Automatic Transmission Treatment is a specially formulated metal treatment for automatic transmissions. It reduces performance-robbing and wear-causing friction on the metal surfaces without affecting the fibrous surfaces where friction is required for proper operation. Microlon contains the highest quality cleaning agents, corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants. Microlon cleans the microscopic metal pores and imperfections of varnish and deposits. then, it impregnates and coats the metal surfaces with a durable micro-thin, dry super-lubricant film for reduced metal-to-metal friction and noticeably smoother operation. Microlon’s Automatic Transmission Treatment also protects against corrosion and scale. You only need to treat your transmission once to reduce maintenance and extend its life. I wonder if I could eat it and live longer?

Nice - the club price of $118 for the Transmission fluid or equivalent.
It will apparently make you a sMaRtEr driver as your mpg will increase by 10%. |

Some fellow agricultural airplane mechanics swear small plane engines last twice as many hours between overhauls when using Microlon.
|
Some small plane owners and mechanics have found that stock aircraft engines using factory recommended oil changed at recommended intervals will last twice the factory recommended time between overhauls. The secret is to operate the engine correctly and run it every day.
|
Aren't aircraft powerplants maintained and rebuilt based on the logged engine hours? I thought they had a gauge for that.

I've owned cars where carbon, varnish and sludge were the only things holding the motor together and keeping compression. Never mind, after reading a little further I came to this. Quote:

Haven't they heard? 'Micro' is old hat! 'Nano' is where it's at!

I once bought a rust bucket beater. The engine had so much sludge that the valve springs were barely visible. It burned a quart of oil every 90 miles, but had good compression, ran well, and got good gas mileage.
I changed oil, and the new oil got black immediately. Just for grins and giggles, I changed the oil every time it was down the second quart. Each oil change was a little farther apart. Four years later, it was burning one quart every 950 miles. Clean hot oil also dissolves engine gunk. I bought the car for $60, and sold it for $100. Four years of driving with negative depreciation. |
Who knew oil dissolves oil (ha,ha)?
