Bicycle side view mirrors?
Hello -

I know others have put motorcycle mirrors on their cars for improved aerodynamic-performance. Do you think these would make good (small!) side view mirrors? :

Zefal Cyclop mirror, black, Universal

- Slim line rear view handlebar mirror
- Folds flat on impact to prevent damage
- Tough chrome plated ABS mirror
- Adjustable 3 angle rotation for the perfect position
- Universal bar-end mounting system allows use on straight and drop handlebar.

Would their optics/magnification be OK for use on cars? If you supplemented this with internal mirrors, at least you would be street legal (right?!?!?).

Mounting it would be the tough part, most of those bar-end mirrors have a ball-and-socket type mounting/adjustment point. So you're essentially trying to find a way to stick the ball part onto your car.

But, by the way of good news, there is no legal standard for optics on car mirrors that I'm aware of, certainly not in California anyway :)
Our state vehicle code just says that there must be 2 mirrors and they must afford a view of at least 200' to the rear of the vehicle.

Your state laws may vary. (YSMV?)

I looked at bike mirrors for the super mileage vehicles, and we found that they shake so much that that they are useless when the vehicle is moving, and that they tend to bend back when you get going over 30mph
I've thought about video cameras, and you can get some pretty cheap ones now.
