BMW R Bike
 

This is my latest bike. It's a 1997 R850R (same as the R1100 except the stroke and final drive ) I added the Parabellum fairing mostly for wind protection but the company that makes the fairing says it will get better mileage. Not sure if it's much of an improvement but it should be. I still get lots of noise at my helmet which is very annoying. I don't want to go higher with the shield because looking through a shield at night is tough with glasses. There are some other things I can add, but that will be later on. I really like the bike and once I get the wind issues figured out it will be a great mile muncher. I've only put 6 or 7000 miles on it since I got her. It only had 25000 miles on it when I bought it. I have friends that have anywhere from 150000 to 20000 plus miles on these motors. I did swap out the suspension for an adjustable aftermarket setup because the stock suspension is not adjustable and very poor!I found a deal, so I took the leap. Hopefully, I'll get some real world test done in the near future..

I haven't ride a bike with telelever fork.
What's is your opinion on it?

I have had the r1100gs, 1150gs, 1200gs and now the water cooled r1200gs.

Heavy bikes, but the moment you start moving they are a bliss to ride. Seating position is comfortable and I feel like the king of the road.

With the telelever, the bike kind of squats instead of trying to throw you over the handlebars when you break.

I think the best one was the r1200gs air cooled bike.

I like the telelever front end. You can brake in a corner without the bike trying to stand up or do crazy stuff.

I love the oil cooled 1200 GS. That was what i wanted but found this for a good price. I'm house/garage shopping so I can't upgrade just yet. I did spend a week on a Rawhyde tour in the south western USA this past summer. I rode a new 1250 GS water boxer and really like it. Would buy one if the time was right. The new shift cam motor is pretty impressive.

This is the inside of the an R1250 water boxer valve cover. The Shift cam is the left side of the picture. The little black servo motor above the grooved drum. One of the guys managed to crack a valve cover on a rock. Didn't realize it until we were leaving Death Valley. We had stopped for a break when it was discovered. No problem. Tech did a roadside repair. Just laid the bike over on the crash bars and replaced the valve cover. It's nice to travel with a stocked chase vehicle and a tech!

I saw “shift cam” and kept thinking of the transmission part. I had heard about reversible submarine engines before, interesting to see the shifting camshaft make a comeback. Awesome to see another motorcycle with variable valve timing, it’s not very common

And now the BMW GS1250

Nice bike. I had a 2002 R1200R for 13 years and really liked it. I had a parabellum shield for awhile but didn't like the way crosswinds could caught the shield and put a shimmy through the bars. I ended up replacing it with a generic small shield.

I really like the telelever suspension. The front doesn't dive under braking so you still have suspension travel in corners. I went from a ZX-7RR to the BMW and very quickly was more comfortable trail braking into corners on the the BMW compared to the Kawasaki.

I have never seen any of those, as neither was the 850 engine available in my country and for the 1100 it was easier to spot the GS and the RT.
