Body Kits
Has anyone checked out body kits for their car? The cheapest I could find is $625. I want to put on an air dam and side skirts, but not for $625. I think I'm going to try to find something that looks close to OEM, but isn't $625. I've considered coroplast, but I want it to look like it's supposed to be there, it's hard to convince other people to mod their vehicle if yours looks bad. Any ideas?

problem with bodykits is that desides a heavy pricetag, is that they're mostely designed to look good and perhaps help aero, but it's quite a gamble... after laying out all that money it would hurt to see your fe go down.
if you're a little bit handy and you want good looking functional mods, invest in some quality materials. some things like plastic gutters of sheet plastic can be obtained if your shooting for functional mods it doesn't matter that they're very eye catching so if your worried about looks, a lot of things like airdams and sideskirts can be build in a discrete finish so that you won't notice them at a casual glance, if you paint them in a flat of satin black that matches the plastic on the car things will look pretty stock. a lot of people here see their mods as an ongoing experiment, but things that have proven to work are sometimes rebuild in stunning quality, wich from the picture i've seen look almost factory installed. |
Fiberglass is actually very easy to work with, if you wanted to attempt building your own. The site Ive learned the most from would be www.fiberglassforums.com
Using foam, you can create the shapes you want, then glass over them. This thread in particular is almost like a guide to making your own body kit. highvoltage77's build thread |

saunders1313,
if you want cheap and OEM - go fankendam get/find a junk air dam/skirt you like & fits your needs and hack it into your vehicle get the OEM look (compound contours and shapes) but not the price I happened upon a busted air dam for free (friendly neighbor - I think it is from an expedition) trimmed it down to fit my truck - and now I have a OEMish air dam I don't clam it is pretty - but that is my fault with a little work it could be down right nice take a walk thru the salvage yard with a tape measure - you might be surprised at what you find http://ecomodder.com/forum/member-co...rill-block.jpg sorry, no before shots here is a stock s10 photo note dam is now about 4" lower than stock & nicely rounded - just low enough to block & smooth the air past the A-arms etc. perfect:thumbup: http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...9&d=1224478506 Of course trikkonceptz is the master of this sort of thing - his work does look nice link - if you have not seen it http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...-0-a-2202.html |
