Building a self-driving self-charging Bolt
It's amazing what you can accomplish with bolt-on parts these days.
Step 1: Buy a comma.ai unit for $750. On a lot of Bolts, it just plugs in and works within 15 minutes. My Bolt is a lower-level trim so I had to jump through 1 extra hoop: use the FrogPilot fork rather than the official release. It works great on highways and straight-ish country roads. Not for city driving, really.
I think manufacturers are going to start encrypting everything and kill this option within a few years.
Step 2: I bought the GoSun roof charging unit. It should be good for 20-30 miles of charge per day and arrive in Q4. I'll have one of the first ones.
Here's a picture of my Comma installed. I need to tuck the wires in better.

What is (or will be) the EVGo roof charging unit?

$3K is a lot. But now I wonder if the Comma.AI unit would work on an Arcimoto FUV. They had their own self-driving initiative so maybe the inputs are there.

I don't think that's expensive. The average American prob spends that much on gas every year

All a matter of perspective. I buy a $25 tank of gas about once a quarter. And electricity costs half what it does right across the river.
I'd be interested in a stationary battery bank and a windmill.

Might want to revise your $25 estimate into gallon units for accuracy. Just bought unleaded non-ethanol at $6.25 @ gallon for the lawnmower. The $25 wouldnt fill the Jerry can . OTOH, you may not drive it that much. I won't judge.

It was 6.5 gallons of adulterated Regular. I burn clear Premium in the Superbeetle. I have to drive about ten miles North or East to find one of two sources.

The FUV would need lane keep assistance and adaptive cruise control at minimum.
Comma intercepts the commands to those systems and inserts it's own control instructions, or passes along the original signal for things like adaptive cruise.
