Good find !

In the Discovery series Motor City Motors, one of the guys was foolish enough to try and get a huge motorcycle tyre to seat by heating it.

Needless to say, it blew up.

A quick check of tire temps reveals that a tire with higher pressure runs cooler.

When people ask me about this, I say "max tire inflation pressure" only. If the tire is pretty old, I won't even recommend doing that because the tire is "used" to the lower pressure. That's not a scientifical statement, but I think you know what I mean.

The irony is that 300-350 PSI makes my recommendations look tame.

Just being on the extra-squeeky-clean safe side,

Another good reason to stay off the brakes.

Agreed...

When will all this other mis-information stop?

I'm hoping everyone realizes that these are truck tires designed to opertae at around 100 psi.

Even so, You must surely agree that...

This is a poor example of over inflation dangers as it would pertain to passenger car tires.

I, Myself, have yet to find any such tests for passenger car tires on the internet. Until more concrete facts that apply to passenger car tires appears, Most will go on blindly inflating their tires.

Who has the facts to educate the masses?
The vehicle manufacturers?
The tire manufacturers?

Nay, none have come forward with this type of info, other than with some generic statements.

All of this is a matter of personal tuning.

I didn't know that. That implies (to me) that a 44 PSI max tire would blow up at around 132+ PSI (3 * 44).
