Do they have a roof over their heads in the meantime?

Looks to be maybe 40-50x12? Architectural thinking starts with a site plan. Doesn't have to be much, lot line, setbacks, driveway, direction of slope, etc.

freebeard: thinking that's a tear down? Ouch, but "remodeling" is about 1.25 times expensive here versus new.

A daylight basement should have concrete walls. Even a tear down leaves a footprint which leads to the site plan.

I wonder how many board feet to Oak they were gifted.

The last photo shows the front of the house, and you can see the concrete portion of the basement. I assume the footprint would be reused.

My guess is little amount of oak for boards or trim. Solid trees typically don't fall, rotted ones do.

Re use depends on the construction method, local construction ordinances, and salvage of currently acceptable concrete stem walls.

Might not be able to reuse the foundation bolts and some places wont let you use drill to install anchors, other places have changed the requirements for footing walls by adding rebar and other steel pieces imbedded into that much larger footing. Suppose it depends if it is a "remodel repair" or not. Is also not left coast located..... I do know my 1950 vintage house is a full hazmat teardown if the backyard maple trees attack because there's evidence of (shudder) asbestos everywhere in the construction.

I'm a little impatient, how are the folks in Missouri doing? The site plan also includes North, and any desirable view directions.

Assume 12x40, that's a 2.5:1 fineness ratio. An edge up icosa has the Golden ratio 1.62:1 and an octahedron edge-to-width is 2.4:1. That suggests an edge vertex icosahedron or octahedron basis.

Assume an octahedral [geodesic]. Two of the eight sides are coincident. The foundational problem with domes is resisting lift. They can blow away like a bouncy castle.

Octagon houses were a thing in the 19th Century.
