I love some of the descriptions in the specifications section. :p

This is subaru's clever marketing scheme.

What's funny is that It's an old Mitsubishi Lancer.

crx driver 10-10-2010 06:14 PM

I think it looks like a galant with kia headlights.

winkosmosis 10-10-2010 10:39 PM

It's a photoshopped Kia Optima

The funny thing for me is, I own a Tempo and a lot of the stuff they poke fun at is exactly why I enjoy the Tempo. It's dove grey (not quite white, not quite not white).. blue interior, zero flash, no logos, completely forgettable. "what kind of car was that? uhh... some... grey sedan.. "

I don't need or want to be noticed, I do in fact just want to get from A to B as uneventfully and forgettably as possible. The exciting stuff in my life is people i share life with, myself and what i'm doing, not what material possessions i'm seen with. The car's just a utility, like a toaster or lawn mower.

It comes in beige and grey. Why do so many people buy medium dark grey cars? That color blends in with the highway surface so people are less likely to see a car in theyre blind spot or in the corner of their eye. It doesnt stand out from the lane behind like normal colors. Even worse when a really expensive small short sports car is that color.

If only it had wheelskirts.

Is it just me or have a small minority here not realised that it's a publicity stunt and not an actual vehicle?...

Because they don't want to stand out? I've never understood why people buy red performance cars (or other bright colors). I learned long ago that the one who notices your brightly-painted car is likely to be a traffic cop :-)

...did anybody else SEE this on TV the other day?

...I darn near split a gut when I saw it on the cable TV!

I didnt say very brightly colored. Why would you want the only color that camouflages to the road?

Does anyone have the statistics about which colors cars get hit more often by other cars??

edit: btw i have a silver car, its not brighly color but it doesnt blend into the road like the darker shades of grey.

Ah, you must be one of the small minority who thinks there's a small minority of people who think there's a small minority of people who think it's real

In other news, their twitter feed is amusing.

Ok. The 2011mediocrity.com URL maps to subaru.com. I am kind of surprised that it would be a Kia Optima. I would have tried to "blandinate" a Subaru or build something up from scratch.

I guess using a Kia Optima was the cheapest method. It's such a generic looking car that I doubt the vast majority of people recognize it, which illustrates their point

I thought it was a Mitsubishi Galant, but.... anyways, I think this marketing campaign has backfired a bit for Subaru, at least by judging from half of the comments on their facebook page which mostly go "I wish that was a real car, I would buy it!" Personally, I think Subaru (the new ones) has gone downhill in every way. The Outback looks like a Lexus, gets abysmal fuel economy and is automatic only.

If I were in the market for a new car, and the Mediocrity was Japanese/German/possibly American built, I'd buy one.

ac7ss 10-28-2010 12:14 AM

I was hoping that it was real. I think that it is about time for the automakers to get back to basics. Remember when the beetle was $1/Pound?

bestclimb 10-28-2010 01:19 AM

I wonder if they make a down rated version with a sub 2L engine...
