Car enters close loop instantly, instrument fail?
Hi, I just got a scangauge like tool yesterday and I have noticed that this morning, my car enters the close loop almost instantly after I started it.
The car is 2009 accord and is parked in a garage, the ambient temp this morning is somewhere 14 C. Is this possible? is there something wrong with the instrument I got? I am thinking I should test it by stepping hard on the gas and see if it changes to open loop, will this work? |
If your Accord uses a wide band O2 sensor it's possible that it always operates in closed loop. I don't know if that is the case though.
Do you have another car or neighbour or friend with a car that uses OBDII that you can check the gauge against? |
You should check coolant temp if it's close to ambient after a night in a garage. Maybe temp sensor is telling ECU that engine is hot. Or maybe you have wideband O2 sensor like Occasionally6 says.

It is a chinese developed tool (which is of very good quality and feature), but I am not sure why that status exist.. It has 3 status, open loop, close loop and open loop - driving (litterally translated from on screen chinese). |
Strange indeed, but I think that's the "SGII like tool" issue not the car itself.

I think you do have a 5 wire 02. Newer accords do.

My '06 TSX goes closed loop instantly no matter how cold it is outside. The only time it goes open loop is when I DFCO. Handy indication to show what RPM I must exceed to attain DFCO.
