Yeah. I downloaded the pdf. It is mainly thieving theh are after... various ways to get in and start contemporary cars without keys. What is funny to me, is that my car is all manual and is from before infotainment systems. Soon, none of the kids will have any idea how to get into a 1998 Civic. And if they hotwire mine they'll find the injectors don't work. ;)

But nobody wants my car anyway. hahaha!

My Vaz has a separate immobilizer box that hardcodes itself in the BOSCH MP7 ECU's EEPROM unit.

Change the immobilizer, Ecu doesn't accept the start signal.
Change to different ECU, you still need the immobilizer paired with that particular ECU.


Only way to have the car start w/o immobiliser is to change the EEPROM chip in the old ECU or have a completely new ecu but the immobilizer signal must be cut off so it doesn't hardcode itself :D

Actually 96-98 Honda Civics are still among the most stolen cars. It's not because they are more awesome; it's because to get in you walk up to a door, grab the window at the top front corner and pull out. Then reach in and open the door. A shaved Honda key will turn any ignition switch.

Don't look at me like that; I learned it on jury duty.

I clicked on the link and saw a video of a guy that got in with a key from a different Honda in about three minutes. Someone said his technique was wrong and he should have been in within thirty seconds.

Does the window need to be cracked or can you get your fingertips in? Someone might notice if you pulled out a screwdriver!

Getting into mine would be disappointing... no normal hotwire strategy or shaved key will start the car. I took additional measures. I follow the same strategy with cars as I did with bikes: "crappy bike, great lock" .... in this case "crappy looking car, oddly hard to steal." They'll get in, but they won't want to stay, there will be little to take, and when they go the car will still be sitting there. It actually was broken into three years ago. They went through everything and took an ancient gen1 ipod shuffle, but if they were interested in the car... well.. I still have it, so... :)
