CEL=best tank ever! Fix it?

So my check engine light comes on Vannie a few days ago. Great. Can't afford to fix right now so I leave it.
Low and behold I have just passed my best ever kilometers on one tank and still have about 60 kilometers to go for around 100k past my record.
Do I even bother to get it fixed or just ride the wave?:rolleyes:

Depends. What trouble codes do you get?

I don't think it's the CEL (or the problem) that is giving you better FE but the weather has been very hot and the engine will run much more efficient when the warmup time is cut down and even after the engine is warm the hot air lets the engine run without as much fuel.

Depends on the code. I had a f150 that had a running lean code (fuel pump only giving off 24psi) and I was getting 17mpg. Put in a new fuel pump, fixed the code but only got 15mpg

correct, but running lean will kill burn up your engine

It depends on how much load is sustained. Engines should not suffer appreciable damage at light loading while lean.

Fix or not?

All great feedback guys and girls. It's been colder and wet around here lately so I'm going to forego the heat factor. Have a friend bringing a code reader so I can check that. The van has all the second and third row out for weight savings and I'm renovating, so occasionally picking stuff up at the lumber store. Going to fill up tonight and see the actual mpg.
