Changing from a belt to Chain on a metro

Anyone ever successfully changed their metro from having a drive belt (water pump/alternator) to being chain driven? I'm tired of it eating belts. I've tried cheap belts, expensive belts, changing the tension from the start, adjusting the tension weekly, belt dressings, cleaning the pulleys, realigning the pulleys (the alt one was off. it didn't squeal for a week after that) I'm just really getting tired of buying new belts every couple of months with the expensive belts, and weekly with the cheap belts. If anyone has any thoughts or proof of concept I would love to hear about them/it.

Since it isn't a chronic issue for other Metros, yours simply has a problem you haven't found yet: alignment, wobble, seizing component, sharp edge somewhere cutting the belt, incorrect tension, glazed surfaces, or ?. It should be far easier and cheaper to fix the stock system.
