Changing out my cooling fan...
The Toyota T-100 3.0L engines had a different cooling fan than the Toyota T-100 3.4L engines. Basically the 3.0L engines had a cooling fan with an aerodynamic ring around it vs the 3.4L engines did not.
I was wondering if there is any significant impact by changing from one to the other... Original 3.4L fan... http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/IMG_1545.jpg Original 3.0L fan... http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/IMG_1546.jpg Installed... ;) http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/IMG_1549.jpg |
A quick drive tonight and it seemed like it was much quieter under the hood... :D

I was going to say that the addition of the ring may have been primarily for sound; aesthetic.
What difference in diameter and blade pitch would be the other questions. And, how is the "fit" different? The open blade type wants to be "in" the shrouding around half the width the blade or more. Plus a clearance of 1/2" or so from blade end to shroud. These small differences can add up in cooling efficiency. An oversized radiator -- by comparison -- is needed if airflow is compromised. . |

Overall diameter seems to be the same but the blade area seems to be slightly smaller with the 3.0L fan than the 3.4L fan...but I didn't measure it before I tried to install it. Depth into the fan shroud seems to be the same...but again I really didn't measure it. The radiator is the exact same radiator fer either the 2.7L, 3.0L, or 3.4L T-100 trucks. Only the radiator shroud is slightly different between the 3.0L and 2.7L/3.4L engine sizes. I did not swap out the radiator shroud. ;) Not sure if my grill block(s) will affect the efficiency of the fan airflow or not. I do have auxiliary temp sensors to monitor under the hood temps and ambient air temps as well as my Ultragauge monitoring my coolant temps. :D |
Wanna hear something funny? TRD is selling the same fan in their current catalog fer the 4.5L supercharger setup... :D
