New in Lancs UK

Hi Folks,

New to the forum, so still finding my feet. Just interested in seeing what I can learn to further push my skills in eco driving / hypermiling.

Got a new VW Golf BlueMotion 1.6TDi in March and already racked up 10000 miles in it. Best mpg so far has been 85mpg on a 200 miles trip back from London. Clearly still room for improvement though.

Are there many other VW Golf BlueMotion owners or UK based people on here?

Andy.

Welcome aboard.

Is that 85 mpg UK or mpg US ?
Neither is bad FE (fuel economy) though

Did you keep a fuel log for those 10000 miles ?

The VW BlueMotion TDi's are as good as it gets regarding FE.
Nice to see you can still improve upon their officially rated fuel consumption.

Evening I'm a fellow VW'er (granted more basic one) and just down the road in cheshire.

If you have a fuel log you can put it and stun every one!!!!

Welcome to EcoModder, Andy.

Please add your Golf to the EM garage and start logging your fillups if you don't do that already.

I hope that the car's being new isn't going to stop you from modding it

Iirc your VW has a DPF. Any comments on it, problems?

Been a while since I was last on here. Car is now nearly 2 years old and I have clocked 38000 miles with absolutely no issues at all. Great drive still and still getting high 70's mpg on my daily commute to Manchester. Also still on my first set of tyres, which amazes me. Only down to 6mm tread depth.

No problems noted on my DPF as I probably do regular motorway cruises. I have heard of DPF issues on the same cars that run solely around big cities.

Has anyone made any good mods to their bluemotion cars that are worth looking at.

Won't be as long until I log on next time.

VW has already taken up some of the easy mods.

Grille will be blocked more than on a regular one.

It'll likely have some underside panels and LRR tyres (pump these up to sidewall max. and see how that rides - firmly is OK, bouncy is too much pressure.)

A spare tyre and jack likely won't be in there.
You could try to dump other unnecessary stuff, but as you're mostly on the motorway, it'll only give a fringe benefit that you'll never notice.

You'll have to do it with driving technique
Or extreme modding ...
