Chevy Spark Ready for U.S., But GM Still Mulling Minicar Demand

I got this in the inbox this morning. Same old GM thinking here. Lets just not try it, even though it might work. Sounds like the same old whiny stuff from GM that we've heard before. Hopefully its just the writer's take on it...

Hi,

I wonder what they really have invested in thiss car; considering it is designed and built by Daewoo.

I think the biggest potential problem is the way it looks.

I'm normally indifferent to styling, but this car really hurts my eyes. (This coming from someone who's been driving around with a 4-foot cardboard boat tail taped on his car for the past week.)

On another blog, one commenter posted: "The Aztek Lives!"

That doesn't bode well at all.

Also: I love the caption under the photo: "GM Global Vehicle Line Executive Jack Keaton test-drove Spark on crowded Michigan expressway."

As if to say: this guy deserves a medal for doing something so obviously preposterous!!

... a proud accomplishment from someone who's used to having someone else fly him around in the corporate jet

Although I want automakers to push for better fuel efficiency, GM has a history of releasing cheaply made, low quality Daewoos with Chevy badges. If the Spark is going to be another Aveo, I'd almost rather not see it. Besides, it's unlikely to be a market success at the current price of gas, and GM can't really afford anything but successes.

RobertSmalls -

Sad to say it, but I agree. Why does it have to be another Daewoo? Why not an Opel Corsa (I know, I know, it costs too much to import)?
