I saw the Chevy volt commercial on TV today. Is that even avialible to the general public yet?

I h8 this comercial. Their goal is to begin making them sometime in 2010...

No, this won't be out for quite a few years. I don't think they have even chosen the batteries they will use. That's the major thing keeping this vehicle from going into production at this point.

Not even close. Last I heard they might get it out by 2010.

So what's the point? I guess this shows that they are a green company.

Well they have to put something out to counter all the TV ads from Toyota about their next gen (plug-in?) Prius and from Honda about their upcoming compact hybrid!

I find it interesting that it is a CHEVY Volt.

The EV-1 was leased through Saturn dealerships, but it was branded generically as "GM".

It's like last time around, General Motors didn't want an electric car associated with any of its particular car line-ups, but now the specifically chose a particular brand this time around.

Does this bode well or ill for the Volt?

I've read it'll be released as a cadillac, :p

If only it was closer to the truth.

Congratulations GM, you've managed to do what I thought was impossible. You've somehow spent 30 seconds selling a hybrid by bashing all hybrids. Way to go.

This brings back shades of "Who killed the electric car?"

I seem to recall someone in that movie discussing the same attitude being present in EV1 advertising. They couldn't make that car look attractive without making all of their other cars look like the crap that they really were.

Man, I hate GM with all their BS. They could be selling **** on toast and be proud of it! What's worse is that people would still buy it, :(

Salesmanship begins when the customer says "no." In GMs case, they simply found a parade and have attempted to get in front of it.
