Oh, the pedals aren't connected directly to the drive train, and only add about 5% to your range. OTOH, highway capable!

Usually the purpose of pedals on such things is to get it classified in a different way. The problem is they probably hurt seating or leg position and just add more weight and complexity. I bet you could get more range and maybe some shade with a solar panel.

I do think that would be cool to be able to buy the basic shell and frame as a kit.

That's probably true. I think solar panels and humans both max out around 300W (about half a horsepower).

When I watched the above the next video down the rabbit hole was this one...

Another nice looking little electric transport, not highway, but check out how cool the top folds into the back.
