ChrisFix bought a Hummer, installed a 4" snokel, and crushes two Civics.
He hit five million subscribers and bought his dream Hummer. He said he worked sixteen-hour days for four years without a day off and since YouTube does not give you anything for 5,000,000 subscribers, he bought himself a daily driver.
He and his fans had searched hard for the right Hummer. There were only 12,000 H1s made and a surprising number for sale, often in bad shape. RedPoint asked what the common failure points of HMMWV were. I started looking into it, but never got back to him. Oops. ChrisFix never specified. The engine and transmission? :) Stock: 6.5L turbodiesel 4-speed automatic transmission 170 HP 290ft-lbs 0-60 in 60 seconds 10 MPG $70,000 in upgrades: 6.6L Duromax turbodiesel Allison 6-speed transmission 450 HP 900ft-lbs 0-60 in 7 seconds 15 MPG Upgraded brakes Among other upgrades, there is a custom winch. The stock HMMWV has a 72° approach angle, but with the stock winch it only has a 47° approach. The HMMWV (and H1) have the engine and transmission up in the cabin. He has a midget bench in the middle of the backseat. He also explained that the HMMWV is designed to drive behind tanks, in the path they cleared. That seems like the midget bench would be ideal for a gunner's seat. He bought a 28-foot trailer for future projects. This seems like yet another channel which progressed from normal cars to ones that most of us will never drive. He showed routine maintenance on a truck of which only 12,000 were ever sold. Then again, SamCrack shows how to maintain exotic cars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5x22ef7A-wWhat is the ROI on spending $70,000 to increase fuel economy 5 MPG? :) Anyway, I have eleven hours of work and driving tomorrow. Have a great day! |
I seen that too, and I’m also slightly disappointed that he bought a Hummer, but at least he got an upgraded one... I think the purpose of the Duramax swap was more for the 450hp/900tq than the 15mpg vs 10... the trailer means he will never again have to rent a trailer or dolly for project cars so that’s a pretty good thing...
It IS funny though, how these youtubers start out humble like us and as soon as they start making real money they go out and get some super expensive car that they never woulda had before their career in entertainment... not that I’m knocking his achievements though |
Hummer was a childhood dream vehicle for me. Then I learned they get like 10 MPG and have a top speed of 55.

I'm going to start a clapped-out Metro channel, and when I hit the big time, I'm buying a $2500 Mitsubishi Mirage! I feel like I should have my own hashtag for that.

Unless you spend tens of thousands of dollars replacing the drivetrain. I imagine fuel economy is the third concern. Would you say reliability is first and power is second?
My supervisor said in 2002 that she wanted an H1, which absolutely makes sense, it is 8,000 pounds, and she is 5'2". She became an occupational therapist and had two therapy clinics five years ago. The SLP that trained me in her clinic had a nice and new Cadillac. I think the owner had a new Mustang, but who knows how many cars she had at home. When I bought my 1987 Honda Prelude Si in 2000 people talked about their dream cars and I said "I don't know, I guess mine is a 2000 Civic." I currently dream about a 2000 Civic operating within specified parameters. What am I doing about it? Just thinking that I need to ask to reschedule an appointment. Somehow my math has changed since yesterday. I keep thinking this must be wrong: 0815 leave for the second job 0830 arrive 1530 leave to see one kid for main job 1630 leave to see other family 1730 see two more kids 1900 leave the reservation and drive a neglected two-lane road without a shoulder 2000 return home I am sure that plenty of people work scheduled like that, but I am not accustomed to it. |
Please don't hash the tags!
I would absolutely watch a good channel featuring Metro repairs and maintenance! Is there one? |
Without even looking, I'm sure there is.
Someone has probably already milked that market, hit the big time and bought their $2500 Mirage. |
Back when I wanted a Humvee, I'd have abused it on offroad adventures, but would never have been able to afford the fuel and maintenance costs.
My next dream car was a Subaru WRX, but somehow lost interest even when I could afford one. Then I got interested in plug-in vehicles and own the Prius. I've also got my dream sedan, a 2006 Acura TSX 6-speed. My next dream vehicle would be a used Chevy Bolt, or a new Nissan Leaf, or perhaps a used Model 3. The prices aren't dropping much these days it seems. I just don't want to spend more than about $15k on a vehicle. If I have another child, the next car might be a Chrysler Pacifica plug-in. |

Shouty says the Hummer is Garbage
I guess the one-sided feud is not dead, but ChrisFix's video is sitting at 3,679,781 views in eight days, while Shouty has 251,766 views in three days.
The thing is, his complaints should not have anything to do with ChrisFix's vehicle since the entire drivetrain was replaced. Did ChrisFix's video pay for the truck? I do not have any idea, but I guess that over a quarter million views for shouting at the camera is not bad, either. |
