CitiCar on Craigslist
Found this on Craigslist this morning if anyone is interested.
1976 Citicar |
Every now and then one of these pops up on craigslist or Ebay in my area usually not in running condition. Anyone have a clue what's involved in replacing the batteries and getting one on the road? Could you just use golf cart parts?

Thats exactly what happens as to why they pop up every so often. Its the same vehicle being resold after the previous owner figures it out, spends a few thousand and sees how it drives and range. :turtle:

I've restored one. These are very simple cars. Some golf cart parts can be used, but to make them more roadworthy a decent 72C controller instead of a contactor controller upgrade is almost necessary. Be prepared to spend a few grand to make one into a driver.

A set of lead acid batteries is around $900 to $1,200, lithium would start at around $2,400 but last 5 to 10 times as long and weigh less.
I drove mine with contactors for years, then I switched to a $600 48v 650amp solid state speed controller, well worth it! Battery chargers vary a great deal in price, charging speed and quality, $300 to $1,200 if it needs a new one. Tires are an odd size, trailer tires make it drive like a trailer. Motor brushes are $20-50 from golf cart shops, you can rebuilt the whole motor for about $120. Wheel bearings are annoying as are the brakes, spent about $250 replacing one wheel bearing. Girls smile, point, wave and ask for rides, it's kind of distracting. |

Just tell them you'll take them for a ride. If, they take you for a ride... ;) :p :D > |
