scivicblu83 09-20-2012 09:11 AM

holy crap. whiskey tango foxtrot over!!!

Daox 09-20-2012 09:21 AM

Pretty cool. What do you use it for?

darrylrobida 09-20-2012 09:35 AM

Everything!

I haul full sheets of plywood, windows, tablesaw, cement, helpers.
At five hundred pounds lighter it comes right up to 90 mph and is
still eager for more! The body is real wood with pine shiplap put together
with mahogany pegs. It is a real head turner. In fact, I often come out
to see my civruck surrounded by girls all taking photos of my woody.
Thanks for your most entheuastic reply to my post. You are very
positive and this encourages me. Darryl

Beau 09-20-2012 09:45 AM

Rarely, IMO, are girls in inclined to take a snapshot of a nice woody.

RiderofBikes 09-20-2012 10:52 AM

"if you build it, they will come" Epic Wood!! :chuckles:

But seriously, if i had a beater i'd be doing this as well. Anyone ever see the PT cruiser truck?

Your particular car doesn't look too Rain freindly?! any plans to make it rain friendly?
How is handling, any oversteer? 500lbs is ALOT of weight to reduce from the rear

In before Michelle Obama jokes start.

Ryland 09-20-2012 12:24 PM

Do you have any photos of it mid build? wondering what parts of the unibody you left.

scivicblu83 09-20-2012 01:13 PM

pictures would be really neat, i would like to see the civic taken apart.

Jakins 09-20-2012 01:22 PM

Haha holly crap is it less than a ton? I saw a civic just like yours with a Nissan truck bed and it had a turbo charged b18 in it on Craigslist. I was calling it an el civino

darrylrobida 09-20-2012 01:47 PM

canvas snap on convertible wrap arroung planned forn the rain. No overstear
problem at all. emergency brake will lock up very easy though. My roomate
can lift rear if i need to change tire.

darrylrobida 09-20-2012 01:53 PM

I cut away all the rear unibody up to the gas tank and strut towers.
Then I added some tubular space frame style reinforcement.
Each rear door weighed 80lbs.

darrylrobida 09-20-2012 01:56 PM

Oh, I added a rear carbon fiber bumper. No really, I did. It is a re-purposed
snow board from the local thrift store that cost me $7.50. also, if I ever get caught in the snow, I will have a ride home. This civruck is totally functional and street legal,
licensed, smogged, registered and insured.

scivicblu83 09-20-2012 02:04 PM

i have had alot of hondas and this is awesome !!!! i love the wide open no rear end shot.

I love the name! I had an '86 Toyota Cressida that I kept threatening to turn into a pickup. I might have done it, too, had just one person ever not laughed when I said "El Cressido."

Jakins 09-20-2012 11:51 PM

Yah I have seen a bunch of really cool drift trucks. A cressida truck would be really different

I love your flat deck car/truck it must be getting some good mileage missing 500 lbs,I bet she is also extra zippy .
Good job and ha ha you can ski out if needed, desperate times require desperate measures..
Post up a photo of your new bumper if you get a chance.
Neat.

metromizer 09-21-2012 08:24 AM

I've seen a couple of well done Metro trucks, and a converted Ford Festiva (in my neighborhood) that look fun...

Here it is: Rear carbon fiber bumper. It looks like it belongs
on the vehicle.

josh.chaos 09-21-2012 09:29 AM

Looks really good, I did some repairs on a peg style wooden canoe once, I know it's tricky...

jakobnev 09-21-2012 11:55 AM

What prevents the cargo from getting a little too intimate with the back of your head in case of a sudden stop?

2000neon 09-21-2012 12:08 PM

^ Reflexes ;)

scivicblu83 09-21-2012 12:50 PM

^^^^^ my thought exactly, reflexes.

Varn 09-21-2012 01:59 PM

A woody, I love it.

Jakins 09-22-2012 12:49 AM

Speaking of the devil!!!! ONE OF A KIND-WICKED CUSTOM HONDA TRUCK

darrylrobida 09-22-2012 06:22 AM

Wow! that is an incredible truck, I to did all my own work. I have $1,300
into mine. I only had a month to finish it. I bought it with the back totaled out.
It had taken a t-bone from a freight train on the left side just above the wheel.
I found those adjustable camber links that are used when you lower a honda to
solve all the suspension problems. Then I made a full metal bolt on bed. It bolts
on to the strut towers and existing rear door hinge mounts. The rest is wood
except for the carbon fiber re-purposed snowboard which is now a rear bumper.

Cobb 09-22-2012 10:13 PM

I soo want to do this to my Insight. Ive seen a prius and geo truck conversion. I haul and hauled a lot of building materials in my Insight and many times drive with the hatch open, something hanging out with a red flag on the end and a cargo strap hooked to the rear tow thingie to secure the load.

cyclist916 10-23-2012 02:26 AM

That is so amazing!

darrylrobida 10-25-2013 11:09 PM

HELP
My civruck needs to carry more load in the rear.
Does anybody know how to lift a honda or get stronger springs?
Can a lowering kit somehow be used to lift?
Thanks

spacemanspif 10-26-2013 09:57 AM

Coil overs are adjustabe and can be used to raise the car. Not sure by how much though. Positive is that springs are usually a higher spring rate so they'll be stiffer than stock.

Glad to see that thing still on the road!

On the road for 12,000 miles now. Best head turning car that I have ever owned. No problems except routine maintenance. I'm planning to use it to move my family to Austin TX where I will get a Masters Degree in clean energy within two years. Then, I will be able to leverage my skills to solve this energy problem at scale.

Jakins 10-28-2013 07:59 AM

Ahhh to many people are moving here to austin :( litterally 150 people per day. I cant even drive on the highway during the day anymore. Or on any road for that matter. Ive lived here my entire life and loved it. But now im starting to think its time to move :(
