Civic VX VIN Info

So you've found a Civic Hatchback that you want to buy online but don't know for sure if it is a VX model...Well look no further, you've found the Answer-all thread to see if a stock, unmolested car is a VX. All you need to do is check the VIN.

Here's the breakdown of the first 8 numbers of the VIN:
  • 2HGEH236 = Civic VX (1992 ONLY)
  • 2HGEH237 = Civic VX (1993-1995)

The 10th digit indicates the model year:
  • N = 1992
  • P = 1993
  • R = 1994
  • S = 1995
You can use this HONDA VIN DECODER to determine any other VIN you may see while looking for your VX.

The engine code stamped on the block to the left of the exhaust manifold (Red Arrow) will be D15Z1.

I hope people find this very useful for finding/buying a VX. :D

Thanks for the info TomO.
To ensure that I understand it correctly, kindly decode the following VIN number for me:

2HGEH2368SH509070

Thx,

Z.

Not sure how soon Tom would answer but from the 2hgeh236 numbers it should be a 92 model VX. Not sure about federal or California emissions but that should be on the emissions label on the drivers door jam or under the hood.

Mech

According to decodethis.com it's a 1995 Civic DX HB 5 speed.

This site works for any cars. Just type or paste the VIN near the top of the page where it says Enter VIN Here.

Thanks for the link conehead433!

It's interesting that that VIN doesn't come up as a VX, Zuhaha.
It is possible that there is an error either on the site or with the VIN theory about VXs.

Update: After reading into the HOnda VIN decoder more, it can be a DX as well if it has the EH236 in the VIN.

Your first note says "1992 only" for the EH236 tag. So to be a VX, you'd have to have specifically: 2HGEH236**N (where ** are any 2 digits/letters); all other 2HGEH236 would not be a VX.

If I interpret your note correctly.
