I found a Prelude like my old one!

87 Honda Prelude Si (B20)

Thirteen years later, twelve hundred dollars less. I am pretty sure that it would be like watching "Flight of the Navigator" as an adult, I just wondered what I was thinking when I was younger.

It probably has a quarter-million miles and it is only rated 22/29, which seems like a minor improvement over 18/24, but I never filled my tank until I had gone five hundred miles, the one in my Forester is the exact same size, but I need to fill up after 360!

FuelEconomy.gov says that the Forester would cost $2,750 more for fuel for 75,000 miles.

I really miss the leg room, but I had so many repairs!

I don't get too nostalgic about older cars. Maybe its the "vacuum hose" era that turned me off, especially with the last generations of carburetors and the difficulties in getting everyhing working like new. My first "new" car was an 84 CRX 1.5. I get close to the same mileage in the Fiesta today.

Mech: but back then did you drive the old CRX the way you drive the Fiesta today?

----

Xist - there was a rust-free Prelude like that in my neighbourhood while I was staying in Vancouver B.C. this winter. Hadn't seen one like it for probably 10-15 years.

Actually Metro it was not a lot of difference. The 84 CRX 1.5 was rated at 35 highway and I averaged 44 for 50 k miles. The Fiesta is rated at 38 and I am very close to the same mileage as the old CRX. I did not coast as much back then but the CRX wouldn't coast like the Fiesta does due to it's low weight and probably worse aero. It did have Michelin tires when I bought it in 1984 in Houston Texas. It also had a 195 thermostat which I had the dealer replace with a 180, but I would not do that today. The CRX was manual and the Fiesta is a powershift (atuomated manual).

Remember the national speed limit was 55 back then so my highway speeds were remarkably close to what they are today as long as other traffic is not affected by my slower driving in which case I am probably picking up a draft in congested areas.
The CRX also had no AC, serial number was 1018 and it was made in July of 1983.
Paid $7k for it and sold it for $5k with 50 k miles. We had to run another wire to get the stereo working (came without). The factory wiring harness for the ground side right speaker had an open circuit, so we just ran another ground wire.

Well, the 1985-87 Prelude Si had fuel injection. Back then, the freeway that I drove the most had a fifty-five mile-an-hour speed limit, which was raised to sixty five while I owned that car. I actually thought of pulsing-and-gliding on my own and did that until I decided that it was not beneficial.

Also, it might have contributed to my short-lived clutches.

I also over-inflated my tires, which was part of why I drove fifty-five, my car handled poorly above that.

Now, I must admit, my beloved Roheryn did not have cupholders.

It was sold. I am still wailing and gnashing my teeth.

On the inside. I am in public!
