Cloroplast shortage?

Took 3 trips to 2 different home depots to finally find cloroplast. Asked 3 different employees and they didn't even know what it was, like I wasn't speaking English! Finally found a small box of 2x3 sheets underneath some glass sheets and it was covered in dust and there was like only 8 sheets of it left. Anyone else had trouble finding cloroplast? I'm in SoCal, big population I expected there to an abundance of everything at home depot haha.

**COROPLAST* **

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as cloroplast. No wonder they didn't know what you wanted.

capnbass91 05-07-2011 12:03 AM

Coroplast, cloroplast. Sound pretty similar. Shoulda known what I meant. Person who English is there 2nd language comes in and asks for help would probably be SOL.

I even said corrugated plastic, still didnt know what i was talking about.

The common name for it around here is Tenplast. You may want to try that one. Also, I have had better success finding it at the lumber yards than at Home Depot.

Frank Lee 05-07-2011 12:15 AM

Heh heh... I understand what you are going through. I wanted to score some coroplast out in Cali and when I talked to the shipping/receiving guys about it, they said it had been pretty much phased out- not recycleable enough. :(

capnbass91 05-07-2011 02:45 AM

Lame! Hopefully a few home depots around here will still have some, I got enough to last me for a few mods tho.

I think your problem is that you're going to Home Depot for it. Sign and plastic supply shops are a lot more likely to have it.

Right. Sign shops are the place to find it, or a supply house that supplies the sign shops. But if you can wait until after the next election, you can find a lot of it for free. It just grows on trees - and fences, utility poles, and such :-)

take a piece with you.

i doubt home depot will have it.

when is the next election? i need a big piece for a belly pan. ;)

I have to agree with jamesqf, wait until the 2012 elections are done. Bring your dykes with you and fill your trailer with the stuff. Most gas stations and convenience stores use coroplast to make their signs, wait till they close..... :)

Can't wait, look up plastic sales in your area. They usually have pallets of of it in 4x8'. I have gotten some at sign stores but they think you are trying to muscle in on their sales of signs and charge an arm and a leg.

Good luck

There is such a thing as COROPLAST. Its sold at TAP Plastics $25 for an 8x4' sheet in the color of your choice.

capnbass91 05-08-2011 05:09 PM

Thanks for the advice, If I need some more I'll look for some sign stores in my area :)

Mpgian 05-09-2011 04:25 PM

i just got a 4x8 sheet for $25.90 in black

I cant wait to start adding it to my car!! I might get some matte black sign vinyl to add to the face and ends so it dosent look like, well... coroplast...

Nevyn 05-10-2011 08:29 AM

Sign shops, yes.

Also - if you don't mind printed stuff, try the beer/soda distributors - they often make "weatherproof signs" that are coroplast. Mini-marts/convenience stores/gas stations often have them (from the soda distributors) that they have to rotate in/out as sales happen or new products get advertised.

Try them too.

Phantom 05-10-2011 02:35 PM

I have only ever seen it in home improvement stores next to window screen.

gone-ot 05-10-2011 05:52 PM

...coroplast "shortage" = political "hoarding" in advance of the next elections!

Frank Lee 05-10-2011 06:09 PM

I need to go unplug the clord from the electric bicycle now- gonna take a shlort trip, and make slure the dloor is locked.

capnbass91 05-11-2011 12:43 PM

-___- dude... I GOT IT OVER A WEEK AGO. COROPLAST.

And there is such a thing as CHLOROPLAST, it is found in plant cells.

You shouldn't make fun of a guy with a speech impediment. :D

96SATSL 10-24-2011 07:11 PM

could poly- styrene be a good substitute?

Bill in Houston 10-25-2011 09:33 PM

there is no substitute for coroplast... easy to work with, thin, rigid, light, durable, etc.

capnbass91 10-28-2011 02:25 PM

Yeah the coroplast I bought is really a great product and is holding up really well.
