Comeback mods
So I purchased a 1996 Dodge Cummins diesel to Eco mod. First tank with no mods 19+ mpg from a 8000+ pound truck. Then the heat wave hit, AC on all the time. MPG dropped to 16+ mpg. The AC worked great at low speeds/rpm, warm at higher speeds/higher rims. AC was overcharged by more than 1/2 pound increasing the pressures and making the engine work harder. Mods this week after AC recharge with proper amount of freon, straight pipe cat and muffler delete, (removed at least 50 pounds), removed mud flaps, removed chrome wheel covers. Planned mods grill blocks and taller tires

Put a muffler on the damned thing.

A bed cover will likely be your number 1 mod for fuel efficiency.
My 1998 has a mechanical fan that always runs and moves quite a lot of air even when the clutch has it "off". You might do well to switch to electric fans. |

I am running down pipe only on my diesel and all you can hear is the whistle from the T76's turbine. The plus side is I never see any deer or elk when I drive at dusk/dawn or at night |
I know turbos attenuate some noise. Is this one a turbo? Either way, the diesels going down my street- a residential area- may or may not have complete exhaust systems but even so they are easily identified by sound as diesels. Erm, that isn't because they're whisper quiet either.

It only takes money

The electric fans are $600 ~ $700 and should pay for it's self in 12 months... |
