Commy - Holden SV6 Sportswagon

Hey Everyone,

Hope this is the place to post it.

I've attached some pictures of some mods I've done after having a read of this forum.

This car I've had for just under 6 months and I've already had a play around.

1) The day I bought the car (ute in the background)

2) Removed the stock SV6/SS rear diffuser, it had a fake mesh that was impossible to wash haha

3) Replaced it with a Pontiac Style G8 GXP diffuser, still need to remove it again and fix some mounts as its not a direct fit, lots of dremel action

4) Ordered and fitted 2012 Model VE Series 2 Commodore rear tyre spats/deflectors - cost $30 for the pair, 1 screw and two stainless steel pop rivets hold it in for both sides.

5) After reading about smooth bumpers I thought up a easy stylish way of filling in and smoothing the flow of air around instead of into the inset fog light housing, I ended up with a Aluminium Channel, two Stainless 316 Screws and some heavy duty trim push pins with custom cut acrylic panels.

Overall car to date sitting at home :)

Next mod is a HDT style Carbon Fibre over Fibreglass front upper grille, My thoughts is smaller opening and it might allow me to make a sort of custom active grille shutter behind the opening.

Thanks for looking :)

Welcome to the site. What kind of mileage are you getting with the Commodore?

Hey Thanks for the welcome :)

I get about 12L/100Km or 19.60Mpg, that is all around town at 40-50km/h here in Australia.

When I first bought the car before I did any modification I did about a 6 hour mixed speed and highway drive and got about a 6.8L/100Km or 34.5Mpg, The car has a 5 Speed Auto and I used Cruise Control alot of that trip. The engine is a Quad Cam with Quad variable Cam phasing - 3600CC GM High Feature V6 LY7 with 195Kw power so not too bad, the car is on the heavy side at around 1900Kg's or 4200 Pounds.

Not too shabby. :) Do you have a goal of what mileage you'd like to achieve?

Hey Sorry for late response :P Not really just yet, I guess improving by any margin would be good :)

Recently I've fitted this new upper grill, its supposed to be like a HDT / Holden Dealer Team type aero grill but its made buy another manufacturer, its real carbon cloth over a fibreglass body and was noticeably a little lighter than the the stock grille, I am thinking it would in this slot style be like a partial grille block :)

Really happy with the result, its suits the colour of the car too.

Not many good looking cars left. This would be one of them. Best of luck. It matters mightily, IMO, that we like our particular car. Economy is a matter of pride, as a start.

Aww yeah, I know its a big car but yes I agree its great looking, nice lines and curves throughout even for something that is almost 10 years old too.

Hhaha yeah, had to look that one up :) I don't think I've ever seen one in Australia? maybe not sold here but yeah I can see the resemblance.

Had my car up on stands today to do new Sway Bar links and added a new little thing that came in the mail :)

Second hand 2014 model VF Commodore V6 model underbody sump protector and aerodynamic smoother panel, photos show before with just behind the factory air dam is the open area, now it continues smooth under the car for longer.

Great little mod except the bolts cost $12 each x 6 o-o yet the plastic part was $60 haha.
