complete exhaust replacement on the Paseo

Well, the time has come. The existing exhaust on the Paseo is pretty much shot and needs to be completely replaced. I don't want to deal with this again anytime soon so I'm looking to remake it with stainless. However, I also don't want to spend a small fortune on the system so I'd love some recommendations. I'm looking for anything useful here. Mufflers? Cats? Resonators? Flex pipes? I'm doing everything from the exhaust manifold back so there are a bunch of parts that I'll need.

are you going to own it long enough for the extra $$ on SS ?

Daox 05-31-2008 08:33 PM

I don't anticipate selling it anytime in the near future. It only has 75k miles on it. Plus, in my wonderful salt using state a mild steel exhaust lasts about 2 years max.

i'd use mandrel pipe and plan on about a 1/4" or more increase in pipe dia. to start with

Why would you recommend a 1/4" increase in pipe diameter?

less backpressure,,but still good flow

Thanks, but I would have to disagree. My engine never sees more than 3000 rpm which is half of the max rpm. So, the exhaust is already oversized as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the suggestion though.

cool than just build it like stock only in SS

bhazard 06-01-2008 12:20 PM

Well if its already oversized you wouldnt mind a 1" pipe on there then?

if it only turns 3k that may do it ,,plus lighter and cheaper :D

I have definitly thought about downsizing. The stock size is 1.75" and I've thought about 1.5". The problem is finding components that are that small. If I could find a 1.5" in/out CAT, resonator (or glasspack muffler) and muffler I'd consider it. Even finding straight SS pipe and mandrel bends in that size can be difficult. I'd rather not have to deal with a ton of adapters (1.5 -> 1.75) just to piece the thing together either.

Keep the suggestions comming though! :)

http://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/fabrication.php

Poke around the whole site,
Stainless works has the flex pipe etc in stainless. They can also make up a whole
system from you using the old one as a pattern. I have been happy with the pipe I have bought from them.

Daox 06-02-2008 11:23 AM

Thanks. I checked out their site which does have a lot of stuff on it. However they are a little pricy. Their mandrel u-bends are $40/ea for 1.75", yikes. I can get u-bends from http://www.mazzurisuper.com for $20/ea. The price on straight pipe is similar, but I'm hoping to pick that up locally to save on shipping.

I could really use some help finding a good (idealy stainless) pre-muffler/resonator and a final muffler. Aftermarket resonators seem to be awfuly overpriced. Right now I'm just using a cheapo $20 glasspack inline muffler and it works alright for quieting things down that extra bit. Any suggestions or websites would be helpful.

Daox,
thanks for the link. I have only gotten the straight pipe so far, if I need bent I will use your place.
