Considering 15x3.5 'Skinnies' Wheels
What are your thoughts on these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=260179364983 I was looking for LRR wheel/tire options and ran across these (and considering them). I called and the rims are approx 10lbs each (similar weight class as VX and HX rims, but 15"). Besides the drag tires listed, a 135r15 vw tire or even 125r15 antique tire (Firestone & Michelin make them) would fit great and weigh in around 12lbs. I know they aren't DOT, but they are for racing and rated at 1,000lb+ weight on each rim. Besides the obvious expense, do you think that going even skinnier would lower the Rolling resistance and increase MPG. Or is it not worth the possible saftey concern? They would look great on the UnNamed Wagon ;) I could use them on 'Now' until Spring! :) |
I'd be concerned about reduced grip for handling. And unfortunately the only way to know how bad it would be is to spend the $ first. Or... you could install 4 space saver spares. Ask Peakster about that - he tried it.

Thanks, I may do that before $pending that kind of money.

The price is prohibitive, $600 for 4 wheels, ouchies! Not to mention the +10 offset will stick the rim out from the hub a little further than wanted.
A suggestion: Dismount the spare tires from the spare rims and weigh them. If the weight is low enough experiment with those since the offset is more desirable. You might be able to find someone that will mount regular tires on a spare tire rim for you. |
