Considering an MPGuino...
 

I currently have a scangauge in my Honda Insight. But I would like some thing with the potential of a little more accuracy as I would guess monitoring the injectors would tell weather or not you are in leanburn?

My main question is, how hard would it be to monitor the LAF sensor? From the reading I have done, the constant voltage is .45 and the sensor has a range of 1.5 volts, positive is a lean mixture and negative is a rich mixture.

How would one go about hooking this up to an arduino? My goal is to have some sort of data logging in the end.

As a not I am fairly new to the arduino. but from the time I have played with it, it seems fairly simple as far as programming it. just need help on the electrical side of it.

An inexpensive route would be to purchase a generic gauge that handles those voltage ranges, and install per the schematic on the link page. Some additional components might be required depending on the gauge (resistors, etc.)

The MPGuino monitors fuel injector activity. It doesn't know/care whether the vehicle is in leanburn; it just reports how much fuel is used at speed and fuel consumption is calculated from there.

I've seen it working in Ben's lean burn-equipped, VX-engined CRX.

As for making just a lean burn indicator, talk to TomO - he's made a circuit for his VX. Not sure if it's 100% compatible with the Insight, but worth an ask.

Perhaps I will have to order a kit and figure out the o2 sensor later.

Though I think I have a plugged fuel filter or a dieing/pluged injector. Under acceleration my xgauge shows a way lean condition.

Here's hoping its just the filter.

hey Metro, ever get a MPGuino installed in your Insight, if so:

where do you tap into the wheel speed sensor?
where do you tap into the injector wire?

and what are some good starting calibration values?

Nope, no Guino in the Insight. It's overkill - the car already has 5 factory fuel economy gauges! (Trip A, Trip B, Lifetime, Segment, Instant). 4 are resettable.

If your ScanGauge has X-gauge capability, you can set it up to indicate lean burn mode.

i'm running an ultra gauge already, it tells me lean burn, so i'm good there


i really like the MPGuino cuz it updates constantly and gives me super accruate instant MPG, it tells speed to xxx.xx miles per hour, which is super helpful, as you want to to cruise juuust slightly decelerating - cant really tell if you are on the accelerate or decelerate to the 0.XX mph w/ the ****ty insight stock speedo. the Ultra Gauge i could use the digital RPM indicator, but it is slow to update, only every few seconds. yeah, i'm manic btw
