converting IDI to DI

I was wondering if anyone else here have considered converted an indirect injection engine to a direct injection engine and adding a turbo?
For example, a kubota super mini series - they are all IDI, but with so many advantages gotten from DI i dont know why they chose IDI for them.

I've thought about drilling out the passage to the prechamber then milling the head to restore the lost compression ratio, FWIW.

They use IDI on simpler engines to aid cold start and smooth operation.

Indirect diesel injection is more forgiving when it comes to the quality and variety of fuels it can run on.

Nissan was working on a system that promised to give some of the benefits of DI with IDI, by adding a secondary set of injectors... which, personally, sounds a whole lot simpler.

DI also requires much more precision in the injection system. IDI engines can get away with cheap injection pumps and injectors. Converting to DI would most likely require swapping to a much more expensive pump and injectors to get the pressure/atomization required. You could probably find something in the junk yard.
