Copenhagen Wheel

Maybe I am coming late to the party, but has anyone else heard of this?

Copenhagen Wheel bike booster rolls out, available for pre-order : TreeHugger

"350W push it to 20 MPH in the USA, 250W and 15.5 MPH in Europe. I think they should use the lower European standards in America, it is more than fast enough, and Europeans are better cyclists, but they are following the legal limits, sensible or not."

Sorry, but what a turd that treehugger writer lloyd is...

There's a massive increase in bicycle accidents in Belgium, and the Guvvermunt thinks (because it doesn't do proper research) it's down to old-timers riding electric bikes beyond their ageing capabilities, despite the 0.25kW and 25kph / 16 mph limit .

The Copenhagen Wheel is a pedal assist only, so it would be hard to blame it for this.

anyone find a price for these?

my folks have the giant peddle assist bikes, and they are really slick. you feel like superman. i like the clean look of the copenhage wheel, and that it can retrofit onto older bikes. the giant bikes are a bit heavy, and lacking in the style dept.

The battery not being a separate unit seems to make it less practical for those who can't charge where they park.

Pre-order price is $699:

it is like a 48v, 2.6 AH battery. A single $20, 12v/10ah battery off a childs scooter has about the same energy storage. It is all about regen (not storage) and lightweight bikes don't get much of that efficiently. For $700 (or soon to be $1000), you can make a bike that will take you 20mph all day with little exertion. Stupid gimmick bike with heavy wheels will have a lot of sweaty broke riders.
