Corvette Z06 Wins MPG Marathon

Corvette Z06 wins MPG Marathon in the UK - AutoblogGreen

The winner was determined by highest percentage above the European combined rating, with the Corvette scoring 61.26% above.

Another part of the MPG Marathon included 2 Aveos; one driven "normally" and the other driven for best economy. Obvious results.

Since it's % over EPA and not raw MPG numbers, I think it would make more sense to say "driver of corvette z06 wins mpg marathon," since, really, he could've ecodriven a milk truck to 6mpg and made 60% over epa, :)

I've often thought the Corvette offers a great platform for a high-MPG car. It is light and aerodynamic and it has a great six-speed manual.

With a diesel we're talking 50+MPG.

I drive past a sad-looking C5 every day. If it has the 6 speed, I consider it with a 3.2 liter Benz dieselcirca 2004) engine as a great practical MPG machine.

I would opt for a old Opel GT and stick a 1.0 Geo motor in it.

yeah a vette at like 60mph what is it 1200 rpm or less.

edit i beat the vette:)

extragoode 10-15-2008 12:26 AM

I've always wanted a vette, but gave up that idea when I decided that I liked being able to fit all my vehicles in the garage and the same time. This makes me want an old vette to convert to electric!

Are they talking imperial or U.S. gallons?

This proves the ecomodder adage that the most important thing is the nut behind the wheel.

There is a c4 vette with a 6.5 diesel getting 30 on the highway, but it's a C4 and a 6.5, so the numbers aren't really impressive. A c5 with a duramax or cummins would be awe inspiring.

lovely car, the opel gt, but looks can be deceiving, it's actually got worse aero than the geo! the metro has a 0.32 Cd while the GT has a 0.35!! of course it's quite a bit smaller so the Cda might be more favorable, plus it has some areas where aeromods make a huge difference... no real airdam or thought about underbody aero

btw the GT had two motor options, a 1.1l 67 hp and a 1.9l 102hp, most people wanted the bigger one of course, but the fairly low numbers sugest this car would live up to it's original design specs with a fairly small modern economy motor

the gt's not having a trunk and the space being taken up by the fueltank it would also make a neat ev conversion... one could even put the charge plug where the original fuelcap is

Is the opel front wheel driven? I ask because there is one for sale in my neighborhood and...so is a geo.
