Could a complete Smartcar, motor and cradle be used as an engine swap?

Whole salvage smart cars seem to sell for very little.

I have an odd car that has some rather terrible issues that are very simple but no parts exist to address. (mid engine RWD)

I remember seeing someone take a full smartcar and remove the motor with cradle as a means of putting a motor under something else.

Does anyone remember who or where that was?

I am looking for examples and what all had to be pulled to make it happy.

There are a variety of oddities I can think of that would benefit from a 1 liter mid engine setup that just goes under the car.

I also imagine the 800cc diesel out of Canadia would be an amazing diesel swap for many antiques.

Thanx
Ryan

G'day Ryan,
I have got a Smart car myselve, but mine is a Smart Forfour with a 1.5 litre engine and they are front wheel drive. The Smart Fortwo have the engine in the back.
I think your best bet is to get in contact with..http//forfour.co.uk or..Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia
Ive been in those rooms for about a year and had a lot of expert advice from the leaders and the people in those rooms, they are very knowledgeable about everything Smart.
Greetings,
Eddie.

Jason Torchinsky thinks it's a good idea.

I did a Google search on 'smart fortwo cutaway drawing' and found :

Apparently the suspension is the same. I guess, worst case, you take the Smart unit body and cut it down into a subframe, or fab a subrame from scratch..

So what is the odd car in question? It would be interesting to stick one in the back of a VW Beetle.

And I was thinking I was the only one who eventually daydreamed about fitting a transverse engine in a Beetle

I wonder if the engine is short enough to mount inline in a Beetle and clear the decklid?

The Avion uses the Smart for Two Diesel = Avion car goes border to border on one tank of diesel

I'm surprised that Hummer owners aren't just bolting a Smart to the back end and using it as a kicker motor.

Conversions using Smart ForTwo engines and drive trains are inevitably going to be named Smart-'S'es.

Such a small engine seems to be an easy fit. And I've already seen Beetles fitted with larger engines.

The old ForFour was basically a Mitsubishi Colt (conventional FWD hatch). The new ForFour is rear engined and basically a stretched ForTwo.
