--- Cover the INSIDE of the wheels ---
As opposed to putting pizza pans on the outside of the wheel, I'm thinking of sandwiching a piece of black coroplast between the wheel and the brake. Will this still give me a slight aero advantage that comes from covering wheels as no air would be pumped in and out of the wheel well?
I want to do this so I keep my pretty rims still showing :) |
Pizza covers actually look pretty damn cool, to be honest... especially if you paint them with something artistic.
Inside should make a minutely small difference... Another option is black coroplast or plexiglass inbetween the spokes of your rims. |

Blocking the inside of the wheel is definitely better than leaving it open. It's not going to make much difference though.

Haven't referred to my aero texts on this, but I think it's more about the top of the wheel moving air aside at 2x vehicle speed more than exchange through the wheel. If that's the case then a smooth exterior wheel surface is where it's at.

I agree. How big is the brake rotor inside the wheel? Most likely it fills the majority of the space already.
|
What about the brakes? Don't they need cooling?
I'm very uneducated when it comes to brakes, I rarely use them ;) But I thought they needed cooling. |
They need cooling if you brake a lot... not that I have much experience in that.

I didn't think about the brakes already covering most of the area...duh... so yeah I guess the gains would be minimal... Ok time to find coroplast (do they sell it in HD or Lowes and in what section?) to make covers for the outside of the wheel.... |
