I was surfing autoblog.com today and read an artical about a new aerodynamic big rig. Clicked a link in the article and found this sweet new tech. Too bad its not for cars.

Did you even look at the links I put in the thread? They show a technology that actually is a cruise control that is set up for better fuel economy.
That other thread is someone asking if the idea of Cruise Control with fuel efficiency logic is possible.

That thread is 9 pages long and about how one of our users designed a cruise control with mpg logic.

The Freightliner system is also quite impressive.

Did you guys not read the article? I knew about his thread before I posted this. Why does everyone have to bash the stiff I post.

Yep, I sure did. I'm sure the technology will eventually trickle down to consumer vehicles. They just gotta start where the product will be most accepted. Fuel economy is more important to the trucking industry than the average driver. I once read an article that said that the owner of X trucking fleet would trade in his entire fleet if he could get trucks that got 4% better fuel economy, and this was years ago. I'd doubt that that has changed. It sure would be nice to have that info handy while driving though! Are there any GPS systems that give elevation data?

I have a portable GPS unite and it has an advance screen that tells me speed longitude and latitude and it gives me elevation 4327FT. But withe just normal GPS its only for your current position. They would have to modify the GPS like they did for the Big Rid. So the car can adjust for the upcoming slope.

I think there are GPS units that you can get for about $50 that are USB connected to a computer. They do x,y and z. Not sure if they show your location on a map, or just log the information for later use.
