And yet, since March 2016, researchers have been puzzling over two events in Antarctica where cosmic rays did burst out from the Earth, and were detected by NASA’s Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA)—a balloon-borne antenna drifting over the southern continent.

ANITA is designed to hunt cosmic rays from outer space, so the high-energy neutrino community was buzzing with excitement when the instrument detected particles that seemed to be blasting up from Earth instead of zooming down from space. Because cosmic rays shouldn’t do that, scientists began to wonder whether these mysterious beams are made of particles never seen before.

Let's see. Maybe the rays went through one side of the earth and came out the other side. ;)

There is another cutting edge satellite going up in 2021 that is specifically going to study the suns and the solar winds interaction with the upper atmosphere.
It will give insight to the extent of man's effect on climate change and confirm the suns role.
I am grinning like the chesser cat as I await the results.

That's exactly what happened here. It's also well known neutrinos do this too, since they barely interact with matter at all.

Yeah, the thing is, if the neutrinos went through the Earth, once they reached the other side, they'd just keep on going rather than stopping for silly little particle detectors :-)

That's why the detector is huge :)

We're gonna chip in and get you some cosmic rays for Christmas!:p

That's a different detector. This one was carried on a balloon: https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...odern-physics/

Why do I get the idea this whole conversation is two people talking past each other.

Words are much like neutrinos. They pass through largely undetected.
